Scooping a prize for outstanding academic performance

I was attracted to the biomedical science course because I’d enjoyed the human aspects of A level biology and wished to learn more on these topics and their applications to medicine.
I have found the course here at Sheffield to be really enjoyable - being able to take a wide variety of modules in first year has allowed me to figure out my areas of interest going forwards into second year.
In particular, I thoroughly enjoyed my optional module this year, Stem Cells and Society - the lecture content is largely based on very recent findings, and puts into perspective how much there still is to research.

I found the prospect of the change from A levels to university quite daunting at first, but quickly settled into the course. The department is part of the Peer Assisted 9 1Ãâ·Ñ°æÏ Scheme (PASS), where second year students help mentor first year students.
I attended most of these sessions - the PASS leaders are very approachable and help to reassure you, and answer any questions that you might have. I found these sessions to be so beneficial that I’m planning to become a PASS leader myself.
Having just finished first year, I am unsure what career I will choose in the future - I plan to take full advantage of the many opportunities available here (such as the SURE scheme for lab experience) to help me figure this out!
I have already learnt so many valuable skills from my time at Sheffield, including time management and organisation. Furthermore, as a result of continuous hard work throughout the year, I managed to achieve exam results I was really pleased with - I won the Ede and Ravenscroft award for my results.
