Description

Disrupting Dominant Discourses in the Early Years: Voices from the Field creates a space to showcase, debate and discuss work that deconstructs traditional developmentalist discourses that are dominant in the early years. The event will curate imaginative, evidenced-based alternative approaches to early childhood education. Importantly, the research shared at this event will foreground the perspectives and experiences of children, families, communities and practitioners who actively participate in early childhood education.

We warmly welcome Associate Professor Jacqui D'Warte from Western Sydney 9 1Ãâ·Ñ°æÏ to open the event with a keynote presentation entitled "Repositioning funds of knowledge and funds of identity at the centre of teaching and learning in P-8 classrooms". Dr D'Warte will share her ongoing work exploring how better to harness the linguistic flexibility and cultural resources of multilingual and multidialectal young people to meet curriculum outcomes in K-8 Australian classrooms.

Following this, academics from the School of Education will present their work in a series of short presentations.

The event will culminate in a talk from Professor Emerita Dame Cathy Nutbrown entitled: ‘Musings from my notebooks: Research anecdotes and practice lessons'. Cathy will share some jottings, cuttings, readings and reflections which span her career from nursery teacher to academic life. Some are favourites, whilst other ‘stuff’ serves as reminders of what still needs to be centred as important and urgent.
